I’m taking fragments of my personal data and translating them into objects I can manipulate as I would pieces for collage or assemblage. I’m working in the Prompt Gallery Space at Australian National University and building the work in the gallery over the next 10 weeks. It’s an opportunity for audiences to watch the work grow, talk with the artist, and perhaps think about the labour of building your own databases for various business and government entities on the web. As the work grows, I can see how the data I’m generating to make the work (buying materials, email correspondence, location information, …) is influencing the form I’m building in the gallery. As it grows its also influencing how I move around in the gallery – some places I can’t reach any more and the negative space creates shapes for my body to fit into.
