A series, including Mirror 26/7/25, developed as a form of non-digital journalling, using found materials to document daily experiences. Starting points included a number of questions: how might a three dimensional form of journalling be different than photographic or written entries? How could the approach capture sensations, thoughts, emotions and memories? How could the resulting works be poetic rather than a catalogue of materials?
The approach was also used to create a series of thirty one works for the Craft & Design Canberra Creative Journalling Challenge and exhibited at the gallery in October 2024. Each mixed media work uses a glass vial as both sampling device and three-dimensional journal ‘page’. I constrained the other elements to include only found materials from my immediate environment, including collected during daily walks in my new neighbourhood.
