This project developed sculptural strategies for recording wordless responses to sensations, thoughts, feelings and time, using simple repetitive actions such as walking and hand crafting. It is part of a sequence of projects which seek to reconcile approaches and perspectives from science and visual art training into my practice.
Since this body of work, I regularly use textile techniques such as crochet as devices to refer to time and reflection, very often as a studio device or ritual that does not appear in the finished body of work.
This version of the work was exhibited at ANCA Gallery, Dickson and includes vigil, a durational performance documenting the time sitting the exhibition using textile skins made in situ to cover wooden templates in the shape of the gallery floor plan.
The installation reverie included motion activated recordings of footsteps through a well travelled nearby footpath, while another, three walks in early winter, reimagined dog leads as record keeping devices.
